Care of your Jewellery

When you are not wearing your jewellery I recommend keeping it in a dark and dry place and preferably in a jewellery box.

Your jewellery is crafted to last with you but will naturally wear, collect scratches, dents; marks of it’s journey with you. Silver will change colour and tarnish and exposure to skin and household products may speed up this process.

To clean your silver jewellery at home; first gently rub it with a very soft toothbrush and mild washing up liquid to remove dirt, then rinse under running water. Dry gently with a paper towel.

If you would like further cleaning I recommend using Silver Foam or Silver Dip. Silver Dip is a harsh chemical cleaner though so take care- only expose your jewellery for a few seconds in Silver Dip and rinse very thoroughly afterwards. You can neutralise the dip by popping your silver into a basin of warm water with bicarbonate of soda then rinsing well again and drying gently with a paper towel.

Jewellery with a matt finish will usually wear down in time, buffing to a more polished look. To re-matt at home gently rub in a circular motion with a fabric scourer to dull any overly shiny areas.

Silver and gold polished areas and chains can be re-shone with a silver or gold polishing cloth.

To avoid discolouration remove your silver jewellery before swimming in chlorinated water.

If you would prefer your jewellery re-newed professionally please contact me and we can arrange to do so in the workshop.
